Dozens of emergency personnel and crews from Con Edison responded to the scene to investigate. Police also warned against travel in the area.

"Due to a gas leak, please avoid the area around Bedford Park Blvd & Webster Ave in The Bronx. There is an NYPD and Con Edison presence. Traffic delays are expected in the surrounding area," a representative for the agency posted on social media.

A representative for Con Edison says 21 customers are without gas service due to the rupture but the company is working to restore that service by the end of Sunday.

The cause of the gas main rupture is still under investigation but no injuries have been reported.
