Waking up to the scenic view of mountains or dancing enthusiastically to welcome the New Year – that's not how everyone's plans look, despite what your Instagram feed might suggest.

Many are still clueless about their New Year’s Eve plans. If you're one among them, please don’t let FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out) force you into making a plan just for the sake of it. Not having one may actually be better. Wondering why? Well, read on!

Traffic Woes

The recent visuals from Manali say it all! This time of year, everyone steps out to travel, and it can turn into a nightmare. You surely don’t want to be stuck for hours in traffic on a special vacation, right?

Peak prices

New Year's weekend is one of the top travel seasons. Everything, from hotels and restaurants to airfares, tends to be super-expensive during this time. Even clubs charge extra for entry on such occasions.

Crowded spaces

Imagine it's New Year's Eve, and you haven't planned anything. You decide to go to a mall or popular market in your city. Sounds simple? Reality might not be so simple. You could find yourself struggling with parking issues, waiting for extended periods to get into a restaurant, or just navigating through large crowds.

Compromised food quality

While this may not be true for every restaurant but due to the huge crowd, the demand is excessive, leading to compromised food quality. If you've ever gone out for dinner on a festive day, you may agree.

What to do instead?

If you're now convinced about spending New Year’s Eve at home, here are some things you can do:

- Clean your home, or at least that clumsy wardrobe, so that you can actually see the entire collection of clothes you have and wear them properly. You can also set up a cosy corner or give a Pinterest-y makeover to your room.

- Grab yourself a comforting cup of hot chocolate (or a pizza with your favourite toppings), get cosy in a blanket and transport yourself into the world of fiction with a book!

- If you enjoy cooking, indulge in preparing a wholesome meal just for yourself.

- Keep the music flowing! Play your favourite tunes throughout the day and have a blast.

- Reconnect with friends and family over phone or video calls whom you haven’t spoken to in a long time.

- Plan your first vacation of the year! Decide to travel a little later in the month when you won’t have to face crowds everywhere. Use the day to plan the place you want to visit, explore potential accommodations, and list the activities you wish to try.

- Enjoy a movie marathon or revisit your favourite series for the umpteenth time, like watching F.R.I.E.N.D.S.

Happy 2024!
