KALYAN: Doctors have given a new life to an old

stray dog

from Kalyan by removing a tumor weighing about 1.5 kg from his back.
It took more than 2 hours for three doctors to remove the tumor from the back of an 8-year-old dog.
Animal lover and founder of PAWS Nilesh Bhanage, who saved many dogs in his life said, "Till now I have saved many dogs with tumour and so far I have seen tumours of maximum upto one kilograms in the body of dogs, but this is the first time that I have seen such a big tumour".

The dog had almost

stopped eating

due to the tumour. But since the removal of the tumor, his health has considerably improved with him starting to eat again.

The incident came to light last week when some people from Kalyan informed Bhanage about the presence of a large tumour on the dog's back.
After receiving the information, Bhanage took the dog to his animal hospital in Murbad taluka of Thane District.
Bhanage said that due to the large tumour of the dog and its old age, the dog could not be treated with normal anaesthesia, for this he brought gas anaesthesia from Pune and Dr. Vinay Bhagat.

On Friday, Dr Bhagat with two other doctors conducted surgery which lasted for more than two hours on Friday.
Bhanage said that he has named this dog Squirtel, which is inspired by a cartoon in which a turtle has some part raised on its back.
