NEW YORK (PIX11) -- The DMV is opening more office hours to make it easier to get a Real ID in time for the May deadline.
Starting next Thursday, select offices in New York City and Long Island will open from 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. to allow for more Real ID processing.
To help get more New Yorkers Real ID ready, the DMV is also opening more appointments on a daily basis.
"These extended hours and added appointments represent our latest efforts to expand that opportunity in the parts of the state where appointments have been hardest to come by,” said DMV Commissioner Mark J.F. Schroeder.
The extended hours come after the DMV previously announced weekend service for Real ID sign-ups in March.
Real IDs and Enhanced IDs will be required for domestic air travel across all airports in the United States starting on May 7.
Residents are advised to make a reservation for the DMV's extended office hours online.
