Dattatreya Jayanti 2023: Story
As per Hindu Scriptures, Lord Dattatreya was the son of Anusuya and the sage Atri. Sati Anusuya possessed great virtue. In order to have a son who would be equal to the trinity of Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesh, she had performed penance. The consorts of the male trinity, Saraswati, Lakshmi, and Parvati, the Goddess trinity, were once envious of Anusuya and requested that their husbands put her to the test of virtue.
In alms they expressed their desire to eat when she feed them in a natural state without clothes. Mother Anusuya got angry and tensed then she sprinkled the water on these three Sadhus and turned them into babies, and then breastfed them.
When sage Atri returned to his Ashram, Mata Anusuya told him everything, which he had already seen through his mystic powers. He hugged the three babies. As the three Gods did not return, their wives became anxious, and they went to Anasuya. The three goddesses begged for her forgiveness and pleaded her to send back their husbands. Anasuya accepted the request. Then the Trimurti appeared in their natural form before Atri and Anusuya and blessed them with a son, Lord Dattatreya.
