Critical questions loom for Mike Tomlin and Pittsburgh Steelers as offseason nears

NEW DELHI: As the

Pittsburgh Steelers

navigate a crucial juncture in their season, NFL insider

Peter King

highlights two pivotal questions that head coach

Mike Tomlin

must address to secure his future with the team this offseason.
In a recent appearance on 93.7 The Fan, King emphasized that Steelers President Art Rooney II will be closely evaluating Tomlin based on his responses to these crucial queries.

The first question revolves around the potential decision to bring in an external candidate to revamp and potentially redesign the team's offense.

"I think the one thing Art Rooney really needs to do when it comes to the postseason decision is you gotta decide, are we gonna try to bring in somebody from the outside to try and revamp, maybe redesign our offense? So, that's one thing," King commented.
The Steelers have witnessed a succession of offensive coordinators in recent years, with the upcoming hire expected to bring a fresh approach. King underlines the pressure on Tomlin to secure a successful OC, which could address the broader issue concerning wide receivers

Diontae Johnson

and

George Pickens

.
King expressed concern over the perceived lack of effort from Johnson and Pickens on every snap, citing it as an aspect that needs immediate attention. "And then, the second thing is, I don't think this is a fatal flaw, but I think it bothers me. It bothers me that Diontae Johnson and George Pickens do not play all out on every snap. ... Somehow, some way, that must get fixed," King added.

The frustrations of Johnson and Pickens in the current offensive setup have been evident throughout the season. As key contributors and among the league's best young wideouts, the limited utilization and apparent neglect in the game plan pose challenges for their performance and morale.
As the Steelers grapple with offensive struggles, the pressure intensifies on Tomlin to find effective solutions to the existing problems. The looming questions about the team's offensive direction and the commitment of key players add complexity to the decisions facing the Steelers' leadership.
