Commissioner Bray on safety during Pride March and 4th of July

NEW YORK (PIX11) -- New York's first female commissioner of homeland security, Jackie Bray, appeared on PIX11 Morning News to address safety concerns over upcoming events.

Despite FBI and state department warnings of threats to pride events by the terrorist group ISIS, Bray said there are no credible threats to New York and she’s confident the New York City Pride March while be safe.

Bray cites close cooperation between the state, feds and the NYPD's counterterrorism units for her confidence. She says she is just as confident about the safety of the Macy's 4th of July fireworks.

Two weeks ago, the NYPD busted a Queens man with an arsenal of weapons. It turns the out 29-year-old expressed extremist views on line.

The migrant crisis only adding to concerns after 8 Tajik men with ties to the Islamic state were arrested after seeking asylum this month at the southern border.

New York’s homeland security commissioner says counterterrorism has gotten more complex. Domestic threats are just as prevalent as foreign threats.

That said, she is confident New Yorkers can celebrate pride and our nations independence safely.
