Panaji: The Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education has issued a circular announcing implementation of its new compensation scheme for students of Class X. According to the scheme, as announced earlier, students will have six regular subjects and four new skill-based subjects. If a student fails in any two of the regular subjects, but gets a minimum of 65% in two of the
skill-based subjects
and at least 50% in the other two skill-based subjects, he or she will be declared to have passed.
The new subjects include
interdisciplinary areas
, vocational education, art education and physical education.
The Board’s circular has now said that the new “compensation scheme and the
sports merit marks
can be exercised simultaneously, but only if the candidate passes the examination”.
However, with the new compensation scheme coming into force for Class X, there will be no provision of condonation marks, or grace marks.
In the six regular subjects, Class X students will answer the public exams and in the four new subjects, they will take the exams at the school itself. However, the Board may set the question papers for the four skill-based new subjects, Goa Board chairperson Bhagirath Shetye had announced earlier.
In the skill-based subjects, the theory exam will be of 40 marks and practical exam of 60 marks. The duration of the theory exam will be two hours.
The ‘allowed to keep term’ (ATKT) scheme will continue for Class X students. “A candidate with the remark, ‘needs improvement’, in one or two scholastic subjects will be placed under ATKT. They will be allowed to keep terms and continue in Class XI. The Class XI result will be declared only when the student passes Class X. Candidates who are placed under ATKT or the ‘needs improvement’ category will be allowed to answer the supplementary examination,” the circular reads.
Heads of institutions are required to strictly adhere to these guidelines to ensure uniformity and compliance with the new assessment framework, the Board has said.
