Bucs discussing a full-time position switch for Tykee Smith

1 day ago 6

The Bucs defense was forced to play roulette with a couple of positions in 2024 with so many injuries occurring. Some players were put into unique spots, including rookies like Tykee Smith. In the instance of Smith, he was able to find success moving around the secondary and the Bucs coaches and front office took notice.

According to Scott Smith of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers website, Jason Licht is not ruling out a full-time move for 2024 draft pick Tykee Smith to the safety position.

Smith had a knack for finding the ball in 2024 and did pretty well in coverage at the cornerback position. He was able to fill in for several injured members of the secondary, including Antoine Winfield Jr., in some instances. Of course, draft plans could change this approach by the team.

If the team takes a safety early in the NFL draft, perhaps he stays at cornerback. If they select a cornerback, though, expect the noise of Smith making a position switch to get louder.
