JACKSON HEIGHTS, Queens (PIX11) – Multiple New York City agencies raided a brothel in Queens on Monday night, according to District Leader Hiram Monserrate.
The NYPD, FDNY and Department of Buildings conducted the raid at 90-25 Elmhurst Ave. in Jackson Heights around 11 p.m. The brothel has been in operation for nearly a year, Monserrate said.
The raid comes after the task force "Operation Restore Roosevelt" was launched in an effort to crack down on sex trafficking along Roosevelt Avenue in Queens. Some of the brothels are close to schools, including one near PS 19 and PS 307, Monserrate previously told PIX11 News.
Protesters held a rally in Queens on Tuesday to call for an end to the task force, saying it targets the community's most vulnerable members including immigrants and working-class people of color.
