CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn (PIX11) --- A dad played detective and nabbed a photo of a man who allegedly robbed his 10-year-old son on a Brooklyn street Friday, police said.
The boy was walking with his 7-year-old sister when Demba Ba, 24, stopped them and snatched $8 from the boy's hand on Sterling Place in Crown Heights at around 11 a.m., according to NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny. Ba asked the boy for $5 and took the cash when the child refused.
"He (the boy) puts up a struggle but he's overpowered," Kenny said at a briefing Tuesday.
After the father learned his kids were robbed, he canvassed the area and snapped a photo of Ba. The picture helped police get a hit on facial recognition and generated a crime tip, Kenny said.
Ba was on probation for robbery and was recently arrested and released for a burglary in Brooklyn on June 4, police said.
Ba has not yet been arrested in the latest incident, authorities said.
