NEW YORK (PIX11) -- In May, PIX11 News met Regina Carter, a NYCHA resident on a mission to make free furniture happen for her neighbors. She's known as “the Furniture Queen.” She has transformed dozens of NYCHA apartments, even the tenant association office.
Update: Carter has a partner in her good deeds now. Mary Townsend is the donation coordinator from Remix Market NYC, a secondhand furniture store that is a professional fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity. Townsend is giving a truckload of furniture. You can also donate to a GoFundMe page here.
Real Dads Network
Derek Phillips is the CEO and founder of the Real Dads Network. They are hundreds of members strong. They provide support to fathers across the area.
Update: They honored the daily segment Monica Makes it Happen with a special award. Dayvon Underdue, who watched PIX11's stories while serving time in prison, joined the organization and says it's a group that changed his life.
Famous fashion designer helps out
PIX11 News reporter Monica Morales had front-row seats to a special fashion show for older New Yorkers in the Bronx. After her story, famous fashion designer Victor de Souza, who has dressed celebrities like Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Lauryn Hill and Marcia Gay Harden, wanted to meet the organizers.
