BHUBANESWAR: CBI has sent a notice to senior IAS officer

to join the investigation into an alleged bribery allegation against Chanchal Kumar Mukherjee, group general manager of PSU Bridge and Roof Co (India) Ltd.
Mukherjee and three others were arrested in the case. Gurjinder Singh, inspector of police, CBI, issued the notice to Sethi, currently posted as principal secretary of social security and empowerment of persons with disabilities, on December 10.
CBI also asked all the drivers associated with vehicles of Sethi to join the probe. “It is learnt that you are acquainted with some important and relevant circumstances of the instant CBI case, which are required to be ascertained from you,” he wrote in the notice.
The notice was served to the senior IAS officer under section 179 of The Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), which empowers police to ask anyone to join the probe if it appears that the person is acquainted with the facts and circumstances of the case. Mukherjee and two others were arrested by CBI in a ₹10 lakh bribery case on December 8. Mukherjee is accused of receiving the amount from a Bhubaneswar-based businessman to award work orders and clear bills.
The Bridge and Roof Co was awarded tenders related to civil construction works from Nalco, which it further entrusted to M/s Penta A Studio Private Ltd, a private firm in Bhubaneswar. Mukherjee allegedly sought and took bribe from director of the private firm.
