BMC MARD to wear black armbands in support of protesting colleagues in West Bengal

MUMBAI:

Resident doctors

at Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation-run hospitals will wear black armbands on 9th October in solidarity with their counterparts in West Bengal, who remain on protest following the rape and murder of a student at

R.G. Kar Medical College

.
This show of solidarity follows the Federation of All India Medical Association's call for a

nationwide protest

and symbolic hunger strike.

The

Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors

' (MARD) BMC wing told the press, "We, the residents of

BMC MARD

, announce our full support for FAIMA’s Nationwide Protest and Hunger Strike scheduled for 9th October.
This protest is in response to the brutal rape and murder of a junior doctor at R.G. Kar Medical College, West Bengal, and the West Bengal govt’s failure to take necessary action."

They added, "We stand firm in demanding justice and a secure working environment for all healthcare professionals.
The rise in violence against doctors nationwide requires immediate intervention, and we call upon the authorities to act without delay."
