BENGALURU:
Whitefield
has been grappling with frequent
power cuts
from Monday morning, forcing apartment complexes to rely on costly diesel generators. Lack of street lighting, and inadequate responses from
Bescom
have also left
residents
exasperated.
Parinay Jain, a resident of Prashant Layout, Whitefield, said that power cuts have been quite
frequent
in his area over the past two days.
“We have been running on a generator mostly. The area next to ours got the issue rectified, but I don’t see that happening with ours,” he said.
Bescom’s recent announcements about power cuts did not refer to Whitefield, Jain claimed. Furthermore, street lights were also not functioning, causing significant inconvenience for residents.
Sarath Chandra, a resident of Swami Vivekananda Road, lamented Bescom’s lack of effort to resolve the ongoing power issues. “Despite reaching out to them, only temporary solutions are provided,” he claimed. Chandra highlighted that diesel consumption for generators is exceeding the usual need. “I believe the frequent power cuts are due to inadequate infrastructure or an excessive load on the system,” he said.
A senior Bescom official said, “There was a power cut in Whitefield for about one hour on Monday; other than that, there have been no uninformed power cuts so far. The interruptions are due to maintenance work going on, and we are actively working on them. If there is an interruption for long hours, we will provide prior information about the scheduled outage.”
