NEW YORK (PIX11) – More than 600 victims of human trafficking were identified in New York State in 2021, according to the latest statistics from the National Human Trafficking Hotline.
In New Jersey that same year, 230 victims were identified.
Human trafficking is the use of physical force, coercion, threats of violence, or fraud, to make someone work against their will. This can relate to either sex work or any other type of labor.
There are resources – locally and nationally – for victims of trafficking or for those who suspect someone may be a victim.
Anyone experiencing an emergency and/or an immediate threat to life should call 911.
