MIDTOWN, Manhattan (PIX11) -- It takes a lot to get commuters to stop in their tracks voluntarily in New York City.

Some artists are transforming a part of the Port Authority Bus Terminal in Midtown Manhattan to help mark the Juneteenth holiday.

"This place does need art, and community and culture. We have it within us, and we need to bring it to the world," said artist Quiana Lewis.

In front of a blank transparent board, she drew lines and attention from people headed to the bus.

The Port Authority and the terminal managers in midtown hosted the artists.

Kelvin Morel used green, yellow and red, the colors of the flags from many African nations.

The Museum of Urban Arts, which has locations in Long Island City and Westbury, New York, curates the show.

"It's the busiest bus terminal in the world with all ages and people walking through. It’s great exposure and brings people together," said museum founder and director Stephannie Sulaiman.

The Port Authority has created galleries and performance space within the bus terminal.

"When you come into the Port Authority Bus Terminal, you wouldn’t think there are arts and entertainment and things that are vibrant," said Myron Johnson, the facility's Film Entertainment and Cultural Arts Manager.

The works created for Juneteenth will be on display in the window facing Eight Avenue at 41st Street.
