LUCKNOW: Approximately 18% of UP’s population is

pre-diabetic

which could become reason for potential surge in cases in future.
Speaking at the pre-conference of 13th annual conference of the Research Society for the Study of Diabetes in India (RSSDI) on Thursday, Prof NS Verma, head of physiology department at KGMU said: “About 4% of the population in UP is currently living with diabetes.”
He warned, “If you know one person with diabetes, it is reasonable to assume that at least four others are in pre-diabetic stage, indicating their vulnerability to becoming

diabetic

in the future.”
The gravity of the situation was further underscored as the two-day conference unveiled its agenda, featuring over 1,500 research academics presenting papers, 110 specialists delivering lectures, and an attendance of over 1000 doctors. “The event aims to address the growing challenges posed by diabetes and foster discussions on preventive measures, early detection, and effective management,” said Dr Ajoy Tewari, secretary, RSSDI.
