AJ Styles returned to WWE programming after months on this weeks’
SmackDown
, where he went up against Carmelo Hayes. The match ended with AJ Styles losing the bout because of his inability to continue wrestling due to a foot injury.
However, reports suggest that this
injury angle
was apparently pre-planned and in reality the Phenomenal One is actually fine and in good health.
While this has had an outcome on his first match in a long while, it could have possible implications and hint at an upcoming storyline.
What is WWE Creative planning with AJ Styles?
While it’s possible that the creative team is trying to build up a storyline that eventually leads to his retirement, there’s a chance that Styles will also undergo a heel turn in the upcoming days, because of frustrations with his injuries.
Now, it’s known that AJ Styles’ contract is set to expire in 2025, and the wrestler hasn’t really shown a lot of interest in wrestling because of a lack of proper creative angles, this current injury angle could be the start of a storyline that could bring him back up with the crowd.
Considering that he had a frustrated look on his face, Styles could lose a few more matches because of his injury to eventually come up with devious and crooked ways to win bouts.
This would give him a potential heel turn and bring him back up with the crowd once again. While giving a popular superstar like him a heel run could work well for him and help him reconnect with his fans, it could possibly fall flat on the face.
The
WWE Creative
team could also be looking to incorporate a managerial role for him in a new storyline, where he turns out to be a mentor to a young and upcoming talent. It’ll be interesting to see how the Creative team weaves the Bullet Club member into new storylines for SmackDown. But for now, fans can be content and relieved with the information that their favorite superstar is indeed fine and does not have any injuries that would’ve sidelined him for a considerable time to come.
