6-year-old boy drowns at New Jersey camp, investigation underway: officials

MANSFIELD TOWNSHIP, N.J. (PIX11) -- A 6-year-old boy died while at a day camp in New Jersey on Tuesday afternoon, according to the Burlington County Prosecutor's Office.

The 6-year-old boy drowned while at Liberty Lakes Day Camp on Florence Columbus Road in Mansfield Township, N.J. The boy was found unresponsive in a swimming pool before 2 p.m. and was pulled from the water by a lifeguard, officials said.

The boy was rushed to Virtua Mount Holly Hospital, but could not be saved. Officials said an autopsy will be performed by the Burlington County medical examiner.

An investigation is currently underway by the Burlington County Prosecutor's Office and the Mansfield Township Police Department.

PIX11 News reached out to Liberty Lakes Day Camp but it was not immediately available to comment.
