HYDERABAD: A 17-year-old
IIT aspirant
died by suicide by hanging at his hostel room at
Madhapur
on Saturday morning. His failure to perform well in IIT-JEE may have pushed him to resort to the extreme step, Madhapur police said. He did not leave behind any suicide note, they added.
According to police, the teenager, T Vinay, who hailed from
Chittoor district
in AP and completed intermediate last year, might have resorted to the extreme step around 9.30am and he was found dead around 11am.
Vinay has been taking long term coaching since last one year at Narayana Institution at Madhapur. He was a boarding student for the past year as per his coaching institute. On Jan 27, the teenager appeared for IIT-JEE. On Feb 6, the key was released and since then he was upset as he found that he didn't perform well.
On Saturday morning, one of the students found him hanging in his room when he peeped through the window as he was not responding to repeated knocks on the door. "Since he had locked the door from inside, the management forcibly opened the door and found him hanging from a ceiling fan. He was immediately brought down and was rushed to a nearby hospital for immediate medical assistance. However, the duty doctors pronounced him brought dead," Madhapur inspector G Mallesh said. When police searched his room, they did not find any suicide note. After speaking to the students and faculty, investigators found out that he was depressed ever since the key was released and expressed that he was disheartened that his year-long efforts went in vain.
"The boy's education was funded by his uncle due to poor financial condition of his parents. Perhaps, this might have played on his mind," the inspector said. A case under Section 174 (suspicious death) of the CrPC was registered.
