NEW DELHI: As IPL giants Mumbai Indians on Friday named
Hardik Pandya
their skipper ahead of the 2024 edition of the tournament, the franchise also thanked a highly-successful
Rohit Sharma
for his exemplary services.
In a heartwarming video shared on social media, the five-time champions labelled Rohit as their 'forever captain', highlighting that his legacy will be etched in Blue & Gold.
Rohit took over the captaincy of the franchise in 2013, taking them to title triumphs in -- 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020 respectively.
Earlier, in a statement, the franchise said the change in leadership was part of their future planning.
After making a return to his former franchise last month, the move of Hardik taking over the reins was inevitable.
Mumbai brought back Hardik in a high-profile trade with Gujarat Titans, where the all-rounder served as captain for two years and took the franchise to title triumph in 2022.
