NEW DELHI: Mumbai Indians (MI) speedster
Jasprit Bumrah
showcased his bowling excellence with a spectacular five-wicket haul against
Royal Challengers Bengaluru
(RCB) on Thursday evening.
Bumrah's stellar performance, coupled with fiery half-centuries from Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav, led MI to a comprehensive seven-wicket victory in the ongoing IPL 2024 at Wankhede Stadium.
Reflecting on his remarkable achievement, Bumrah highlighted the challenges of bowling in T20 cricket. "In this format, it's very harsh on the bowlers, so you have to have all kinds of skills," he stated in the post-match presentation. "You should not be a one-trick pony...Everyone is doing research and data, so people start to line you up."
Bumrah emphasized the importance of learning from setbacks, stating, "Bowling is tough because you will have to take a beating, you will have to have bad days to learn from it." He stressed the significance of preparation and adaptability, noting, "You just cannot come on the day and say okay I'll do this, maybe this will work. For me, preparation is always the key."
Regarding his bowling strategy, Bumrah emphasized the need for flexibility. "You don't always need to bowl the yorker," he explained. "You must understand where the game is going, and what the wicket is...There's no ego in this format."
In the thrilling encounter, MI opted to bowl first after winning the toss. Despite early breakthroughs, RCB's skipper Faf Du Plessis and Rajat Patidar staged a commendable partnership, guiding their team to a formidable total of 196/8. However, MI's formidable batting lineup, led by Kishan, Sharma, and Yadav, chased down the target with ease.
