Dodgers
finally cracked a win after losing four matches consecutively, and it happened at the Dodgers Stadium at Chavez Ravine. But who emerged as the Dodgers’ savior against the Cubs? Was it the double-edged sword Shohei Ohtani? Or was it the right fielder Mookie Betts? Well, it was none other than pitcher
Yoshinobu Yamamoto
who carried the team on his shoulders.
Was it the luck of returning home? Or did
Dave Roberts
's recent statement on the Dodgers lineup finally awaken the fire in the players’ hearts? Don’t worry, we have all the details.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto striking out Cubs batters
When the time came, it was pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto who saved the Dodgers from falling. He came onto the ground and threw 103 pitches, of which he struck out 9 Cubs batters, walked one, and only allowed two hits. On top of that, he delivered six
scoreless innings
. Yamamoto delivered a standing ovation-worthy performance and earned an ERA of 1.23.
The way Yamamoto delivered seven splitters was praiseworthy. Though his speed dropped from 91.8 mph to 90.9 mph, the balls were quick enough to keep the Cubs batters’ on their edges.
His performance did not go unnoticed, as the Dodgers’ manager, Dave Roberts praised the pitcher.
“Obviously, Yoshi was very good. Set the tone, filling up the strike zone, getting the swing and miss, a lot of punchouts. The split was really good. Fastball really good. Mixed in some curveballs when he needed to keep them off-balance, which was great. Efficient. Getting through six was huge.”
Roberts’ statement came as a surprise as a few days back, he was seen giving an indirect warning to the top Dodgers’ players through an after-match interview.
“I just do not think 15 strikeouts with our ballclub should happen. We faced Skubal and we faced Sale and we did not punch 15 times” said Dave.
Batters gaining momentum after Yoshinobu Yamamoto’s performance
It was not just Yamamoto who gave a stunning performance. There were other Dodgers’ too, who finally gained momentum after losing continuously. While Yamamoto handled the pitch, the batters finally showed their magic.
Amongst the batters, it was
Tommy Edman
who scored a home run and finally brought the Dodgers their long-awaited victory. Though other batters need to pick pace, for now, the Dodgers are moving slowly. Will the remaining players finally be able to deliver as expected by the franchise?
