Industrialist Anand Mahindra finally watched '12th Fail' and shared his review of it in a lengthy post on X on January 17. Mahindra, in his post, suggested his fans and followers that "if they see 'ONE' film this year, they make it this one." Vikrant Massey, who played the protagonist IPS officer Manoj Kumar Sharma in the film, also reacted to the post.
Impressed by the plot of '12th Fail', which is "based on real-life heroes of the country", Mahindra also appreciated the actors' performances and narrative style in detail. He also appealed to '12th Fail' director Vidhu Vinod Chopra to make more such films, in his post on X.
Speaking about the plot in his review, Mahindra said, "Not just the protagonist, but the millions of youth, hungry for success, who struggle against extraordinary odds to pass what is arguably one of the most competitive exams in the world."
He praised Chopra for his "brilliant" job of casting in the film and said that each character was credible in the role. "They turned in gritty and passionate performances," he added.
In his review, Mahindra made a special mention for Vikrant Massey as he delivered a "bravura performance" in '12th Fail' that merits a National Film Award, according to him.
"Vikrant was not just acting out the character’s life, he was living it," Anand Mahindra said.
Speaking about the narrative style of the film, the industrialist expressed gratitude to Vidhu Vinod Chopra for emphatically reminding us that great cinema is about great stories. "Special effects are no match for the simplicity and authenticity of a story well told," Mahindra said.
In his review, Mahindra said that the 'interview scene' was the "highlight" of '12th Fail' for him. "Yes, it may seem a bit contrived, but the profound dialogue makes this sequence hit you squarely between the eyes and shows you what India must do to build a new Bharat," he further added.
