WWDC 2024 is set to begin tonight at 10:30PM IST. Today, Apple will put a period on all the speculations around the upcoming iOS 18 and will reveal what’s under the hat. But until then the anticipation will not stop. Recently, a report by MacRumors, stated that Apple will bring a change to how the dark mode looks on the device.

According to the report, selecting Dark Mode for the iPhone will include a dark black tint for home screen app icons. Originally, this would be limited to Apple apps and the dark black tint would be automatically applied when the Dark Mode is enabled. Apple could offer third-party app developers an API to use which would allow the feature to work with non-Apple apps. This release could be similar to the feature we have reported earlier regarding the ability to customise app icons.

Changing the colour of iOS home screen app icons could eventually make it possible for an iPhone user to customise their device. Not just a tint to the icon colour, the rumour has it that the users can also change the colour of the app. For instance, by making all News apps a certain colour, and doing the same for Social Media, Financial, and Health-related apps, the feature will enhance the user-experience.

WWDC 2024: What to expect

Apple, so far, has only unveiled the time for its keynote session. Giving out just a little piece of information, Apple is building a stage for bigger revelations. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple's AI approach will focus on practical features for devices rather than flashy demonstrations.

The speculations are such that the tech giant will overlook the hardware updates and focus on only software. The highlight of the event is anticipated to be the new iOS 18. This upgrade is surely the most awaited one. iOS 18 is expected to introduce significant enhancements including home screen customisation, new siri version, generative AI features and many more. To provide more power for iOS 18, Apple has joined hands with OpenAI to integrate their chatbots into its operating system.

Along with AI, Apple is expected to bring a number of other features including home screen customisation, changeable icon themes, Control Center revamp and many more. Read in detail about the new iOS 18 features barring AI. While all of them are big updates, a big change coming to the iOS 18 home screen is the ability to customise app icons. While nothing is confirmed yet, this new feature will let users change the colour of app icons on a system-wide level for the first time. Hopefully, during WWDC 2024, Apple will reveal more about the functioning of this feature.

But when will iOS 18 come into reality? According to the reports, the first public beta for this new operating system, iOS 18, should be released a month after the keynote, which takes the timeline to around mid-end of July. Traditionally, the tech giant releases a stable version of the update to all its existing devices a few days after the launch of its latest iPhone flagship in September. Users can expect the same for iOS 18 as well.
