NEW DELHI: With
Cody Rhodes
inching closer to a potential Undisputed WWE Universal Championship victory at
WrestleMania 40
,
wrestling
legend
Bully Ray
has voiced concerns about booking a match between Rhodes and Dwayne '
The Rock
' Johnson on Night One of the grand event.
The original plan for
WrestleMania
40 featured The Rock headlining the show against his cousin
Roman Reigns
.
However, Cody Rhodes, after winning the 2024 Men's Royal Rumble, altered the course of events at WrestleMania XL Kickoff, reclaiming his spot in the main event and potentially jeopardizing The Rock's scheduled appearance.
On the Busted Open podcast, Bully Ray expressed reservations about the potential clash between Cody Rhodes and The Rock:
“Night One, you’re going to put Cody Rhodes in there with a guy [The Rock] who I have the utmost respect for but hasn’t been in a ring for 10 years?”
Ray emphasized the risk involved in pitting Rhodes against an opponent who hasn't competed in a professional wrestling ring for a decade. The wrestling veteran underscored the uncertainty of ring dynamics, especially considering the adrenaline and intensity of WrestleMania:
“If there’s a 1% chance that Cody could get injured, the guy that’s going to be in the main event — I’m not wishing injury. I don’t think he would get injured, but anything can happen in that ring, and we’ve seen it before, especially when the adrenaline is going to be running like it’s going to be running on Night One. And to be able to control those shots is impossible at times.”
Bully Ray's cautionary words highlight the delicate balance that WWE faces in ensuring the safety and success of its marquee matches, particularly when considering the potential risks associated with high-stakes contests featuring legendary figures like Cody Rhodes and The Rock.
