NEW DELHI: Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper
Pat Cummins
praised the formidable batting duo of
Abhishek Sharma
and
Travis Head
following their side's impressive six-wicket victory over Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League match.
Cummins expressed admiration for their batting performances, admitting he would not relish the prospect of bowling to them given their exceptional form.
CSK faced their second consecutive defeat in the ongoing IPL 2024 season after Abhishek's explosive knock and SRH's clinical bowling display led to a convincing win at the
Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium
.
Reflecting on the match during the post-match presentation, Cummins remarked, "Different soil. It slowed up as the game went on. It was still a fantastic game. We have got plenty of fast bowlers. Shivam (Dube) was hitting the spinners. So we took a chance with the fast bowlers, bowling cutters. I would not be wanting to be bowling to him (Abhishek Sharma) and (Travis) Head. The crowd was crazy tonight, especially when MS (Dhoni) walked out. We love playing here, at home conditions."
In a match where SRH won the toss and chose to bowl first, CSK's early wickets of Rachin Ravindra and skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad left them at 54/2 in 7.1 overs. However, commendable contributions from Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, and Ajinkya Rahane propelled CSK to a total of 165/5 in their allotted 20 overs.
In the run chase, Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma laid a solid foundation for SRH, guiding them to 46/1 in just 2.4 overs. Aiden Markram's impressive half-century further solidified SRH's position, ultimately leading them to a convincing six-wicket victory.
With this win, SRH climbed to the fifth spot in the IPL 2024 points table, securing four points from two wins and two losses in four games. Meanwhile, CSK occupies the third spot with the same win-loss ratio, backed by a superior run rate.
