Speaking ahead in his speech, Afridi vowed to support underprivileged children across the globe in areas of education, healthcare, sports, and clean drinking water. He also supported the ICC and UNICEF’s mission to bring more children into cricket.
“Very good evening. I am not going to take long like my batting. I am Shahid Afridi. I was blessed to play international cricket for Pakistan for more than two decades. I believe living a selfless life brings more joy and with more blessing comes more responsibility. I choose a life to support the underprivileged people across the globe through my foundation in areas of education, healthcare, sports, and clean drinking water. I support ICC and UNICEF in their mission together so more children can be part of this second most watched sport in the world. I am honored to be part of this event and look forward to the rest of this evening. Thank you so much,” said Afridi in a video uploaded on his Instagram account.
Afridi highlights Pakistan's dressing room woes
Notably, Afridi boasted a strike rate of 86, 117 and 150 in Tests, ODIs and T20Is respectively in his international career. Meanwhile, Afridi recently criticized the Pakistan team management following their back-to-back losses against the USA and India in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024.
In an interview with a Pakistan News channel, Afridi made a shocking revelation about things not being alright in their cricket team’s dressing room and he will bring everything out in the open after the World Cup.
Meanwhile, Pakistan find themselves on the verge of being knocked out of the tournament after losing consecutive matches against the USA and India. The Babar Azam-led side needs to win both of their remaining fixtures and also hope either of India or the USA lose both of their matches to qualify for the Super 8 stage.
