Women lose $61,000 in an identity theft scam pattern: NYPD

NEW YORK (PIX11) -- Police are searching for an individual they claim stole thousands from two women in April.

The suspect contacted the victims and told them their identity had been stolen and that the money would be used to help apprehend the suspect, according to the NYPD.

2 NYPD officers shot in Queens: police

The first incident was reported to police at around 4 p.m. on Monday, April 22. A 73-year-old victim on Staten Island told police an unknown individual took a large amount of money after making a false promise.

Police said the victim lost $25,000.

A second victim in Manhattan told police that an unknown individual took a large amount of money from them after making a false promise at around 10 a.m. on April 24. Police say the victim lost $36,000.

Police have released a surveillance image of the suspect. He was last seen wearing a black jacket, black pants, and white sneakers.
