Mariana Kobayashi, who was previously fired from her job at LinkedIn, has secured a position at Google's Dublin office after her innovative job application video gained widespread attention online, Business Insider reported. Google, known for its rigorous hiring process, receives millions of applications annually, making it incredibly competitive to secure a job there.

Kobayashi, determined to stand out, decided to take an unconventional approach to her application. Instead of submitting a traditional resume, she created a video showcasing her work experience and included pre-recorded references from former colleagues and industry contacts, which helped her secure a job role at Google. This unique video took approximately 10 hours to produce and was shared directly with the hiring manager at Google, as well as posted online.

The video quickly went viral, garnering attention from numerous people in the industry who reached out to offer support and advice. Impressed by her initiative, a Google recruiter contacted Kobayashi, acknowledging her as overqualified for the position she initially applied for but expressing interest in her candidacy for other roles.

Despite initially being slightly underqualified for the role of account executive, Kobayashi applied with a purpose-driven application, with the mindset that she would learn things quickly. She also provided documents outlining her perceived shortcomings and her plan to address them.

Throughout the interview process, Kobayashi maintained regular communication with the recruiter, providing updates on her progress and reaffirming her interest in the position. After completing three stages of interviews, including a case study and leadership assessment, she received confirmation that she was in the final pool of candidates.

A week later, Kobayashi received the news that she had been offered the job at Google. This suggests that one can get a job at companies like Google by thinking outside the box in terms of job application and even showing a great level of interest with good knowledge of the role.

Besides, Google just recently fired 1,000 employees if reports are to be believed. In January this year, the tech company cut jobs in several departments, including Google’s hardware and central engineering teams, as well as Google Assistant. In an email sent to laid-off employees, the company explained that the decision was difficult and regretted informing them about the layoffs.
