QUEENS, N.Y. (PIX11) -- Disturbing surveillance video shows a man chasing a woman down a street in Queens earlier this month, police said.

The 48-year-old woman told PIX11 News that the man followed her from Brooklyn on a J train.

Police said the woman got on a northbound J train from the Cypress Hills subway station during the morning rush hour on March 19. The woman said the man made her feel uncomfortable by sitting next to her and staring at her.

"He was looking at me and he was too close," the woman said.

At that point, the woman said she got up and went into another train car, but the man followed her.

"When I went to the next car and looked up, he was right behind me, so I told him, 'Why are you following me and what do you want?'" the woman said.

The woman got off the train at the Jamaica Center–Parsons/Archer station and the man continued to follow her. The surveillance video picks up that vantage point.

"I see him behind me running so I run," the woman said.

The man can be seen chasing her down a street into a building. Once inside the building, she said the man attacked her.

"He started punching me and hitting me and I started defending myself," the woman said.

A security guard from the building stepped in to help, but the man got away.

The NYPD released surveillance images of the suspect.
