NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) -- A woman is facing manslaughter and a slew of other charges after a newborn baby was found dead inside a bag in a Bronx home last year, authorities said.
Nearly five months after the incident, police charged Lasasha Gouldbourne, 31, on Tuesday with criminally negligent homicide, assault and acting in a manner injurious to a child.
Authorities report that on Sept. 1, 2023 Gouldbourne allegedly gave birth to a baby girl inside her mother's bathroom on Bronx Park East. Gouldbourne eventually leaves the bathroom leaving a bag of clothes, according to authorities. Her mother, who was aware of her pregnancy, went into the bathroom and found a newborn in the bag.
First responders rushed the infant to a hospital where she was declared dead, authorities said. Police officers apprehend Gouldbourne and she is taken to Bronx-North Central Hospital and delivers a baby boy, following an emergency cesarean section, authorities said.
