Woman, 84, dies in fire at senior living facility on LI: police

LONG ISLAND, N.Y. (PIX11) --- An 84-year-old woman died and a 74-year-old woman was seriously injured in a fire at an apartment building for seniors on Long Island Sunday morning, authorities said.

The blaze broke out at the Senior Living Apartment Complex at 107 Central Park Rd. in Plainview just after 5 a.m., according to police. First responders found smoke and flames coming from the second-floor roof and evacuated the building, officials said.

The 84-year-old woman died at the scene and the 74-year-old woman was rushed to the hospital in critical condition, authorities said.

Several residents were treated for smoke inhalation at the scene and two victims were taken to the hospital for additional treatment, police said.

The cause of the fire was not immediately clear.

Fire Marshals and the Arson Bomb Squad are investigating the incident.
