WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, Manhattan (PIX11) -- A 23-year-old woman was pushed into a moving subway train at a Washington Heights station Monday morning, police said.
The 23-year-old was standing on the northbound A train platform at the 175th Street station around 9 a.m., police said. As the train pulled into the station, a 26-year-old man pushed her into the train, causing her to fall to the ground on the platform, police said.
The 23-year-old was sent to an area hospital with bruises, and the attacker was taken into custody, police said. It was not immediately clear whether the two knew each other, police said.
Subway safety has become an increasing concern in New York City in recent months. In her State of the State address, Gov. Kathy Hochul announced the city would deploy two NYPD officers in every overnight train for the next six months. The city has already flooded subway stations with officers and the state has deployed the National Guard.
On Sunday, two people were stabbed at subway stations in unrelated incidents, including a 17-year-old, sources told PIX11 News.
