MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. (PIX11) -- News of a double homicide just after midnight Tuesday at a non-descript warehouse in Mount Vernon, New York drew a response from local police and the FBI.
The crime has Larry, who lives across the street wondering what was really happening behind those closed doors.
The FBI tweeted out a photo of this man who possibly goes by the name Marcos, wanted for questioning in connection with the crime.
“That’s alarming – that’s alarming,” said Larry.
Mount Vernon’s police chief provided some insight Wednesday.
“The products range from products you would find a smoke shop,” said Chief Marcel.
Mount Vernon’s Mayor describes this as an attempted robbery, and “not a random act” that relates to no further explanation to a police chase that took place Tuesday night through the streets of the Bronx.
“We have several suspects in custody. It’s still an ongoing investigation. We are still pursuing other suspects,” said Mayor Patterson-Howard.
That chase ended with a white van crashing near a dead end on Hughes Avenue at the edge of Fordham University’s campus.
“I seen the guy when he coming from the back, straight down. Straight down. I think the guy jump the fence,” said Luis, who lives down the block from he crash scene.
The school sent out a security alert to students.
“I was just crossing the street and I saw a helicopter overhead with a spotlight, and just all kinds of sirens around this area,” said Jack, who attends Fordham.
Mayor Shawn Patterson-Howard on Wednesday also offered a straightforward explanation for the FBI’s involvement.
“We contacted the FBI, and that’s something that we’ve done in the four years that I've been mayor. One thing that we’ve been able to see is that we’re closing cases at a higher level,” said Mayor Patterson Howard.
Earlier in the day we also noticed at least two officers from the state office of cannabis management here at the warehouse.
The US Attorney’s Office of the Southern District confirms several people are in custody.
