A poultry owner in Bhopal has secured a patent for ‘herbal poultry feed composition’ that is being used to produce eggs characterised by low cholesterol and high Omega-3 and Omega-7 content. The patent was granted by the Indian Patent Office on June 13, based on which the eggs are being marketed by patentee Aditya Kishore Gupta as a herbal product.
Gupta, a computer engineer who has been in the poultry industry for the past 22 years, had filed for the patent in 2021. He has three other applications pending—to secure intellectual property rights over feed that would produce eggs low in cholesterol and fat, high calcium eggs and introduction of high flavonoids in eggs. Gupta has also filed two patents in the United States.
“The idea to improve feed came from seeing the condition of birds in the poultry. The feed essentially improves the health of the birds. If the health of the birds improves, then the eggs produced are also healthier. This, in turn, benefits those who consume these eggs,” Gupta said to INDIA TODAY.
What are the advantages of herbal eggs? It is claimed eggs produced by hens on a herbal diet are high in protein, minerals, vitamins and flavonoids and enhance immunity. They do not have bacteria or any antibiotic residue either.
“I am a firm believer and practitioner of ayurveda. The feed prepared by me contains 200-250 herbs. It is not possible for anyone to have all 200-250 herbs at the same time, but that’s possible through the flavonoids I introduce in my eggs,” said Gupta.
