NEW DELHI: Sunrisers Hyderabad captain
Pat Cummins
has called upon his team to put aside the stinging loss against Kolkata Knight Riders and refocus on the upcoming IPL Qualifier.
Sunrisers Hyderabad suffered a resounding eight-wicket defeat at the hands of KKR in Qualifier 1 held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad this Tuesday.
Despite the setback, Cummins' squad will have another opportunity to secure a spot in the final as they await the winner of the Eliminator clash between Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, set to take place in Chennai on Friday.
KKR cruised to victory with 6.2 overs to spare, courtesy of unbeaten half-centuries from Venkatesh Iyer (51) and captain Shreyas Iyer (58).
"Yeah we will try to put this behind quickly, good thing we will have a crack at it (second qualifier). You have those days in T20 cricket where things doesn't quite work out. We weren't where we wanted with the bat and obviously couldn't do much with the ball," Cummins said at the post match presentation.
"Felt that extra batting was important (picking the impact sub) on this wicket. Though KKR bowled really well, there was a little bit in it early on and the surface got better. We all have played enough cricket, and going to a new venue (Chennai) helps us as well, so we gotta keep this behind and move on," he said.
Mitchell Starc spearheaded an impressive bowling performance, claiming three crucial wickets to unsettle SRH, who could only muster a below-par total of 159 runs before being bowled out with just three balls remaining in their innings.
