JIND: Haryana

Sarpanches

who are in

protest

since January of this year, now gave an

ultimatum

to BJP government in Haryana to accept their various

demands

by July 7, otherwise they will take a decision against the BJP government and which would impact state assembly polls due this year. Notably, they held several protests in Haryana during the recent Lok Sabha elections and conducted a campaign against BJP leaders.

They have been demanding roll back of e-tendering for carrying out development works in villages and increase their spend limit.
Talking with media persons on Friday in Jind, Haryana sarpanch association president Ranbir Singh Samain said that they have been raising demands of implementation of complete Panchayat Raj Act under the 73rd amendment to give more power to Panchayats. They have demanded from the

Haryana government

to withdraw e-tendering process for development works at village level, reducing the interference of MLAs, MPs in the working of panchayats, and complete autonomy to panchayats for development work at village level. Moreover, sarpanches are demanding empowerment of village panchayats.
“If the Haryana government fails to accept our demands by July 7, we will hold a meeting of all sarpanches of the state and take a decision against the BJP government. We have taught a lesson to BJP government in the recent Lok Sabha polls and similar action would be taken in the upcoming assembly elections which are scheduled in October this year. Its a clear and final call for BJP government," he added.
Apart from it, they opened a front against formed panchayat minister and JJP MLA Devender Singh Babli saying that they will hold protests against a party which will give ticket to Tohana MLA Babli in the next election. He said that Devender had used derrogatory words against sarpanches when he was the Panchayat minister. "We will also ask Congress to include our demands in their manifesto. The next government in Haryana will be formed with the support of sarpanches. People like Babli will by boycotted in villages in the state," Samain added.
