BATHINDA: The
Sanyukt Kisan Morcha
(SKM) has said it will intensify
agitation
in the coming days as
farmers
' groups, along with
trade unions
and others, observed '
Bharat Bandh
' on Friday.
The morcha said that its Punjab unit will meet on Feb 18 at Jalandhar, which will be followed by meetings of national coordination committee and general body in Delhi to suggest future course of action.
The SKM had sent a written appeal to the Prime Minister on Feb 13, asking him to be sympathetic and considerate towards farmers suffering from losses, distress, debt, and unemployment. "It is unfortunate that the PM has shown sympathy towards the corporates, but unleashed repression on farmers with pellet firing, tear gas sprays, use of drones, road blockades, threats and a war-like approach," it said.
"The PM had promised formation of a committee to consider MSP and other demands in December 2021. Seven months later, he formed one with those who were openly opposed to giving MSP and added crop diversification and zero budget natural farming to the agenda."
The SKM said the Centre has "deliberately vitiated the atmosphere on farmer issues". "The SKM has decided to immediately intensify agitation and it shall be done with calls for massive actions in coordination with workers and other sections of people," the SKM said. TNN
