Why is it important to eat food in the right proportion?

It often happens that even after eating the right type of homemade food, we feel heavy, constipated, and low on energy. Wondering why? Well, one of the reasons could be not eating in the right proportions. In a video on Instagram, nutritionist and author Rujuta Diwekar once mentioned that to feel light, energetic and happy, it is important to eat grains, millets, and pulses in the right proportion.

As per her Instagram post, it is important to eat your meals in the right proportions. She says, "Maintain a 3:2:1 ration between grains: dal/sabzi: pickle/salad/curd."
What are the benefits of eating in the right proportion?

As per Rujuta, it puts an end to dieting and deprivation; diet diversity is built in as a default; it appeals to all senses; it is good for eyes and taste; - improves digestion and assimilation of nutrients, ends constipation, bloating, and acidity; and it improves satiety and makes you feel light and energetic.
How to eat in the right proportion
As per Rujuta, it is important to get out of the diet cycle and shift the focus from portion to proportion. She says, "The only way to get out of this diet cycle and to stay fit for the rest of our lives without depriving ourselves of the goodness of food is to eat food in a state of balance. The answer therefore lies in the right proportion, not portion."

What is the right proportion, then?
As per her post, it is the timeless method of eating our meals in a way that allows for maximum nutrients, enhances taste, and even looks visually appealing to our eyes. And this method of eating food, across all regions and cultures of our country, uses the following proportions:

50% of your plate should be rice or roti or millets (grains)
35% should be dal and sabzi (and meat if non-veg)
15% should be papad/ pickle/ salad/ curd, etc.
What else should one do?
As per Rujuta, it is important to eat food in the right posture and position. Also, walking a bit after your meal and consuming water only after 40–45 minutes contributes to better digestion and boosts energy levels. She suggests not sleeping right after the meal and should try to have the last meal 2 hours before going to bed.
