NEW DELHI: The unheralded
Sameer Rizvi
hit the jackpot in the
IPL 2024 auction
as the uncapped Indian batter, with a base price of Rs 20 lakh, secured a staggering Rs 8.40 crore deal with the Chennai Super Kings.
The franchises engaged in intense bidding wars before CSK outbid others to bag the batter. CSK entered the fray for the young talent, followed by Gujarat Titans. A back-and-forth bidding war ensued, rapidly driving the bid up to 1 crore.
It appeared to be a sealed deal for CSK at Rs 7.60 crore but Delhi Capitals jumped in with Rs 7.80 crore.
However, CSK has signaled their interest with a bid of Rs 8 crore.
The 20-year-old Rizvi came into the reckoning during the UP T20 League where he emerged as the highest run-getter of the tournament with 455 runs in nine innings.
The big-hitting Rizvi clobbered the most sixes for his team Kanpur Superstars in the league. He smashed two brilliant hundreds before making 84 from 50 balls in the final to help UP win the tournament.
Rizvi's batting prowess earned him a trial at three IPL franchises, including Punjab Kings. But due to prior commitments with the Under-23 squad of UP, Rizvi had to forego the trials.
In his maiden appearance with the Under-23s, he showcased more than just a glimpse of his potential by hammering 91 runs off 65 deliveries in a one-day match against Rajasthan.
