Alakh Pandey, the founder of PhysicsWallah, has taken the matter of grace marks awarded in the NEET UG 2024 examination to the Supreme Court, raising concerns about transparency and fairness. Approximately 1,500 students were granted grace marks by the National Testing Agency (NTA), sparking controversy.

Originally from Allahabad (now Prayagraj), Uttar Pradesh, Pandey had aspirations of becoming an actor and was actively involved in local theatre during his youth. However, financial constraints led him to start tutoring Class 8 students. Known as the 'Physics guy,' Pandey faced challenges in achieving a high score in the JEE. He briefly attended Harcourt Butler College in Kanpur but left before completing his B.Tech degree to pursue a career in teaching.

Today, Pandey has emerged as one of Uttar Pradesh's wealthiest young entrepreneurs. His company, Physics Wallah, manages 61 YouTube channels with over 31 million subscribers. Reports indicate Pandey's net worth exceeds Rs 2,000 crore, solidifying his status as India's richest teacher.

Pandey, a vocal critic of the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (Undergraduate) (NEET-UG), has filed a public interest litigation regarding recent issues. The controversy involves allegations of the NTA granting extra marks to over 1,500 NEET-UG 2024 candidates, alongside claims of exam question leaks. Pandey and his legal team argue that only a comprehensive investigation can restore confidence in this crucial exam for undergraduate medical courses.

In a statement on social media, Pandey expressed trust in the judiciary, stating, “I trust the court and our legal system. Our students will get justice.” The Supreme Court has taken cognisance of the matter, issuing notices to the Centre and the NTA in response to a petition seeking the annulment of NEET UG 2024 results due to alleged irregularities. Justices Vikram Nath and Ahsanuddin Amanullah acknowledged the gravity of the situation but declined to halt the counselling process, adjourning the case until July 8.
