NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) – Both Punxsutawney Phil and Cluxatawney Henrietta agree that spring will arrive early this year.
Despite the very little snow this winter and two weather-predicting animals agreeing – the official start of spring will be on March 19.
On that day at 11:06 p.m., the Northern Hemisphere will observe the spring equinox or vernal equinox, marking the change from winter to spring. The Northern and Southern Hemispheres receive the same amount of sunlight on the March equinox, according to National Geographic.
This spring, the weather might be warmer in New York City, at least according to NOAA's seasonal temperature outlook. Northern states around New York will see above-normal temperatures in February, March and April.
