introduced its Channels
feature
in India in June last year. The Meta-owned app is now working on a new functionality for its Channel feature.
As reported by WABeatInfo, WhatsApp is working on a feature to
transfer
the
channel ownership
. The feature is presently available for Android beta testers and it comes with version number 2.24.2.17. A new option to transfer the ownership of a channel will be available within the channel info screen in the future.
This option empowers channel owners to seamlessly transfer
administrative rights
and responsibilities to another chosen channel administrator.
The implementation of this feature aims to augment the flexibility and adaptability of WhatsApp channels, facilitating smooth transitions in cases where the current channel owner makes personal decisions necessitating a change in leadership.
“We believe that this feature might also be useful in other situations, especially for channel owners who manage their channels using two different WhatsApp accounts. In such cases, where a channel owner may have distinct WhatsApp accounts for professional and personal use, the ability to transfer ownership becomes even more important. As the channel grows or undergoes a shift in focus, the channel owner may decide to separate their personal and professional communications by creating a dedicated WhatsApp account for the channel,” mentioned the report.

Furthermore, WhatsApp has highlighted that Bad Bunny, the Puerto Rican rapper and singer, made history by being the inaugural user to send voice updates on his WhatsApp Channel to his extensive following of over 19 million users.
