WhatsApp may soon introduce Android-like nearby share feature

is reportedly working on a new feature which will make it easier for the users to transfer and share files. As reported by WABetaInfo, the Meta-owned app is working on a new

file sharing feature

with people nearby.
After announcing a new feature to allow users to share files 2GB in size, WhatsApp is now exploring additional functionalities designed to enable users to share files with ease.

As per the report, the WhatsApp beta testers will soon be able to use the are feature to easily share files. According to the screenshot shared by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp users need to open this section to send and receive files, ensuring secure sharing within close proximity. Shaking the device seems necessary to trigger a share request, ensuring a controlled method for exchanging files. It's crucial to emphasize that the sharing process is secured with end-to-end encryption. This ensures the safety of shared files, even when outside a WhatsApp chat and in an unfamiliar network setting.
“Implementing a feature in WhatsApp that allows users to share files with people nearby can offer several advantages, enhancing user experience and adding important value to the platform. In particular, users will be able to quickly share files with nearby people and it’s ideal for situations where a fast and direct transfer is required. In addition, the phone number always remains hidden to non-contacts, ensuring privacy and security in every file exchange,” mentions the report.

WhatsApp Channels surpasses 500 million monthly active users
Recently, WhatsApp reported that Channels has surpassed 500 million monthly active users, providing a wide range of options for users to follow. Prominent channels include Mumbai Indians, Ram Charan, Allu Arjun, Katrina Kaif, Vijay Deverakonda, Master Your Money, Bad Bunny, Netflix, National Geographic, Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1, and more.
Additionally, WhatsApp noted a historic milestone as Bad Bunny, the Puerto Rican rapper and singer, became the first user to send voice updates on his WhatsApp Channel to his extensive following of over 19 million users.
