Chatter about

Wi-Fi 7

– the next standard of internet connectivity – has been on for a while now. Indians are set to experience this next-gen, high-speed connectivity with supported devices entering the market soon. Here’s a quick explainer on how this technology will help users in India.
Wi-Fi 7 promises faster connections, lower latency and the ability of supported devices’ to manage more connections than the previous standards, Wi-Fi 6 and the more capable Wi-Fi 6E.

These standards were released in 2019 and 2021, respectively.
Government’s role in Wi-Fi 7 in India
Reports suggest that the Department of Telecommunications (

DoT

) is considering the delicensing of the lower band of the 6GHz spectrum for the use of Wi-Fi connectivity.

This means that it will allow individuals to upgrade to Wi-Fi 7 routers and experience ultra-high-quality content at speeds that are said to be 5 times faster than what’s possible with the current Wi-Fi 6E-compatible routers.
Do you really need Wi-Fi 7? Not immediately but soon. The demand for faster and more reliable wireless connectivity has been on an upward spiral as everything is moving to the cloud. The Wi-Fi 7 – also known as IEEE 802.11be – functions over 2.5GHz, 5GHz and 6GHz bands and is poised to bring a string of benefits to the increasingly interconnected world.

What industry leaders are saying
Market leaders like

NETGEAR

are eager to grab the opportunity to introduce its technology in the Indian market.
“This is a revolutionary technology and has a competitive edge over the existing technologies like Wi-Fi 6E, Wi-Fi 6. The latest Wi-Fi 7 technology represents a significant leap forward in wireless technology, addressing the pressing needs of our hyper-connected world,” said Marthesh Nagendra, sales director, India MEA South-East Asia Region, NETGEAR.
“Blazing speed, enhanced efficiency, low latency, and advanced security features unlock new possibilities and redefine the way we experience connectivity,” Nagendra added, noting that the company is well poised to introduce this technology in the India market.
Wi-Fi 7 benefits for users
– The Wi-Fi 7 standard is said to offer 46Gbps wireless data transfer speeds that are five times faster than Wi-Fi 6E routers. This will help in handling bandwidth-hungry applications, such as high-definition video streaming to easily run over internet connections.
– The bandwidth channels have been doubled to 320MHz which means more devices can be connected at high speeds, providing efficiency due to reduction of network congestion in crowded environments.
– Wi-Fi 7 also reduces the latency to a minimum, which means online games, video conferencing and streaming can provide a real-time experience to users.
– Wi-Fi 7 utilises both 5GHz and 6GHz bands to simultaneously send and receive data, which means that the connections will be more reliable.
