What is the best case free agency scenario for Quentin Grimes, Sixers?

9 hours ago 6

When the Philadelphia 76es acquired Quentin Grimes from the Dallas Mavericks at the deadline back in February, it's hard to believe they expected him to produce the way that he did.

In 28 games with the Sixers, Grimes averaged 21.9 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 4.5 assists while shooting 46.9% from the floor and 37.3% from deep. He started 25 games and was a key part of this group on a nightly basis in terms of helping the scoreboard move and giving the Sixers some type of offensive production in a time where they didn't have many pieces to turn to.

With that being said, one has to wonder about free agency this summer as he is a restricted free agent. The Sixers don't have much money to use after the 2024 offseason when they locked in a lot of core players. Philadelphia has the non-taxpayers midlevel exception and the biannual exception at its disposal as it looks to re-sign Grimes as well as Guerschon Yabusele.

So what is the best case scenario for Grimes and the Sixers? As Bleacher Report puts it:

The best-case scenario for Philadelphia may be that Grimes takes a deal starting near the $14.1 million non-taxpayer mid-level exception, although he may feel that's too low of an offer.

One has to wonder if there is a team out there--like the Brooklyn Nets, for example--who is willing to offer Grimes a deal thinking the Sixers won't go over their budget too much for him. This will be a tricky situation for President of Daryl Morey and Co. to figure out. They are already pushing up against the luxury tax which then brings the dreaded aprons into play.

Either way, it feels as if the Sixers are convinced that Grimes is a good piece to fit around Joel Embiid, Paul George, and Tyrese Maxey. Heading into the summer, it will be a challenge for Morey and Co. to bring him back, but one has to believe they will be able to find a way to make it happen.
