NEW DELHI: Rajasthan Royals skipper
Sanju Samson
emphasized the importance of resilience and character in bouncing back from tough phases following a dramatic four-wicket victory over
Royal Challengers Bengaluru
in the
IPL 2024
Eliminator at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
Reflecting on the win, Samson highlighted the lessons cricket and life have imparted to him, particularly the inevitability of both good and bad phases.
He commended his team’s overall performance, particularly their fielding, batting, and bowling efforts.
"What cricket and life have taught us is that we will have some good and some really bad phases. But we need to have the character to bounce back. I'm really happy with the way we fielded, batted, and bowled today. Credit to the bowlers; they are always thinking about what the opposition batters might do and how to set the fields accordingly," Samson remarked.
Samson reserved special praise for young talents
Riyan Parag
and
Yashasvi Jaiswal
, who played crucial roles despite their limited experience. Both players, along with Dhruv Jurel, have shown remarkable skill and composure under pressure.
"(On Parag and Jaiswal) They are 22 each, as is Jurel. With very little experience, the way they are performing at this level is amazing," Samson noted.
Addressing his own fitness, Samson revealed he is not at full health, citing a bug circulating in the dressing room that has affected several players.
"(On his health) I'm not 100% actually. There is a bug in the dressing room, lots of coughs, and a lot of people are a bit unwell. (Going forward) Rovman finished that off well. I think we have a travel day and rest now, looking forward to the next game," he said.
The victory ensures RR’s progression in the tournament, setting the stage for their next challenge. Despite the health setbacks within the team, Samson's leadership and the collective effort of the squad have kept RR’s hopes alive in the IPL 2024 playoffs.
