What can I bring? TSA tool shows what's allowed on flights

NEW YORK (PIX11) – The height of holiday travel is about to take off and TSA is making it easier to know what you can and can’t bring on flights.

TSA is projected to screen 18.3 million people between Nov. 26 to Dec. 2 and to help expedite the process, they are encouraging travelers to use the online tool What Can I Bring?

Travelers can search for specific items and see whether they can be brought in a carry-on bag, checked luggage, or neither. The site also gives additional details about special instructions or sizing for some products.

“If it’s a solid item, then it can go through a checkpoint. However, if you can spill it, spread it, spray it, pump it or pour it, and it’s larger than 3.4 ounces, then it should go in a checked bag,” said a TSA representative.

To ensure travelers have enough time to pass through security, the Port Authority suggests passengers arrive at the airport at least two hours early for domestic flights and three hours for international flights.

Those heading to the airport can also use the My TSA app to check wait times.
